About the Role
Secret City is seeking an experienced and creative Visual Product Designer to join our team. This role is ideal for a designer with a strong foundation in visual and graphic design, along with some experience in digital product design and UX.
In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in bringing client projects to life, creating both designs for a diverse range of industries - from AI to e-commerce to healthcare - primarily for startups in the Seed and Series A stages. Additionally, you will contribute to the design of assets for Secret City’s immersive experiences and escape rooms, supporting our marketing, production, and business development teams with visually engaging and impactful designs.
This role is remote, but we’re looking for someone based in Toronto or the GTA. Our team and operations are centred here, and we’re committed to supporting local talent. Working from our office is completely optional, but we encourage you to join us in person for collaboration and team-building opportunities whenever it works for you.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design: Design digital products and experiences, including wireframes and prototypes, for web and mobile applications.
Visual Design: Create engaging digital and print assets, including graphics, prototypes, animations, slide decks, and other marketing collateral for both client projects and internal projects.
Design System and Brand Guideline Maintenance: Help establish and maintain design systems and brand guidelines that reinforce brand identity across platforms and projects.
Website Updates: Develop and update pages and visual assets for both internal websites and client websites.
User Research Support: Support user research and usability testing to gather feedback and iterate on solutions.
Quality Assurance Support: Work with engineers to review and refine implementation, ensuring a high-quality user experience and visual design.
Documentation: Create clear design specifications and design documentation to support during handoff and implementation to engineers, product managers, marketing, and other cross-functional collaborators.
Design Critiques, Reviews, and Iterations: Regularly provide constructive feedback and confidently share your work with stakeholders and clients.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with designers, product managers, engineers, marketers, producers, and business development teams to understand project requirements, user needs, business objectives and support end-to-end design project needs.
Your Experience
Degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Combined 3+ years of experience in visual/graphic design and product/UX design, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work.
Strong proficiency in design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices in UI/UX design.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate the rationale behind design decisions.
Ability to independently manage multiple projects, break down problems, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, remote environment.
Attention to detail and a passion for creating exceptional user experiences.
Values a culture of feedback and sharing, and actively seeks feedback on work.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience working with product managers and engineers, especially at early-stage startups or in an agency or studio setting.
Familiarity with prototyping tools and website builders like Framer and Webflow.
General knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
