Hi, I’m Amy Stuart, and I am the Head of Design at Secret City. We’re looking for an ambitious, creative Immersive Experience Designer to join our team for a summer internship. You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with our studio team on our upcoming experiences and productions, build your skills and experience, and leave a lasting impact.
This position is perfect for someone who is fascinated by crafting real-world interactive experiences and is keen to learn and grow in the fields of experience design and live interactive storytelling. The successful applicant will work closely with our team of innovative game and experience designers to conceive and develop new immersive experiences and refine existing ones.
Wondering what your time at Secret City might involve? Here are some responsibilities you’ll have:
Assist in the design and development of in-person immersive experiences.
Participate in brainstorming sessions and creative workshops to generate fresh ideas for experiences.
Collaborate in building prototypes for new experiences and conducting live tests to gather feedback.
Work with the team to refine and enhance existing immersive experiences based on participant feedback and observations.
Learn and apply principles of experience design, narrative crafting, and participant engagement in real-world settings.
Document design processes and decisions to maintain a consistent and coherent experience across projects.
Engage effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including game designers, storytellers, set designers, and other creative professionals.
What you bring to the table:
A keen interest in live, interactive, and immersive experiences.
Basic knowledge of experience design, storytelling, and participant engagement in physical spaces.
Creative mindset with the ability to translate imaginative ideas into tangible experiences.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, able to collaborate effectively in a creative team setting.
An enthusiastic learner, open to new ideas and experiences in a fast-paced, creative environment.
You get excited by immersive experiences, escape rooms, games, puzzles, and/or digital design.
To be qualified for this role
You must be currently enrolled at a post-secondary institution with a focus on Experience Design, Theater, Performance Studies, Interactive Art, or related disciplines.
You must be registered in a co-op program, internship program, or require work experience that directly relates to your field of study in order to graduate. This is because of funding requirements.* (see below for details)
You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or granted refugee status. This is because of funding requirements.* (see below for details)
You’re able to work from our Toronto studio for occasional in-person meetings, and be onsite at our different experiences in the GTA when needed for production.
You must share a portfolio or website with relevant examples of your work.
